8 Most Affordable Caribbean Destinations for Your Getaway

If you’d love to visit the Caribbean Islands but your budget is quite tight, don’t worry – this doesn’t mean you’ll never get to see them! 

Not all of the islands are luxurious or overpriced. If you plan well enough, you can still experience gorgeous beaches and sunny cultures without breaking the bank. 1. Dominican Republic

Contrary to what you’d expect after seeing it being advertised on social media as a luxury destination, the Dominican Republic can be affordable. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the cheapest countries in the Carribean! Make sure to check out its vibrant city of Santo Domingo, and don’t miss out on the cheap street food and free cultural sites. 

2. Jamaica

The home of reggae music! Here, you’ll be able to find affordable accommodation options and plenty of low-cost activities. This includes hiking in the Blue Mountains and chilling on the public beaches in Negril. 

3. Puerto Rico

Since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, you can skip currency exchange if you're using dollars. San Juan has affordable guesthouses, and exploring the island’s natural beauty, like El Yunque Rainforest, is free.

4. Curaçao

Curaçao’s colorful capital, Willemstad, has tons of options for budget overnight stays. The beautiful Playa Lagun beach, amongst others, is free to visit. Snorkeling and diving are popular activities (and they’re usually reasonably priced!).

5. Trinidad and Tobago

Less touristy than some of its neighbors, Trinidad and Tobago have a good selection of relatively cheap guesthouses. Street food is a big highlight, and natural attractions like beaches and nature reserves are free or inexpensive.

6. Grenada

Known as the "Spice Isle", Grenada has affordable markets, street food, and plenty of public beaches to enjoy. Budget travelers will be happy to hear there’s also a low-cost ferry between islands!

7. Honduras (Roatán)

Roatán, part of the Bay Islands, offers cheap diving and snorkeling opportunities. Lodging and food are generally cheaper compared to other Caribbean islands, making it a great option for a getaway.

8. Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe offers a mix of French and Caribbean culture. Many of its natural attractions, like waterfalls and beaches, are free to visit, and the local guesthouses aren’t expensive.
