Known for its beautiful architecture, extensive choice of cuisine, history and festivals, Seville is visited by over three million tourists each year – but when is the ideal time to go? In Autumn, the weather’s cooler and there is not as many tourists, making those long walks through Park Maria Luisa much more enjoyable. With that in mind, we’ve put together the perfect itinerary for a trip to the Spanish city in the autumnal months.
Cathedral of Seville
During the summer months in Seville, the heat can reach up to 40 degrees which can make it a struggle to see the sights without overheating – but in Autumn, the Cathedral of the city is a must-do place to visit. As the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, it was noted as a World Heritage in the 20th century.
Perfect to visit in Autumn, the Cathedral will be quieter than most months and visitors will be able to explore its incredible treasures inside without the extensive queues. Whilst it’s a little quieter – don’t forget to climb the Giralda – walking up 35 ramps, visitors will be able to view the decorative tower which exceeds 104m high.
Festivals of Nations
The renowned festival of the city is held every Autumn and brings the international spirit of the 1992 Seville together, where different countries set up stalls and cultural activities. The festival also hosts performances from international music artists and runs from the end of September to November.
Held in the Prado de San Sebastian Gardens, the site is surrounded by parks and cafes for a more relaxed trip after the festival fun.
Royal Palace of Seville
Home to the Spanish royalty, visitors can walk through Royal Palace of Seville’s rooms, halls, gates and impressive gardens. Another landmark perfect for an Autumn visit, the palace is an ideal place to see, outside the peak Summer season as it allows visitors to experience the key rooms in detail – without the extreme heat.
Open from 9:30am, its suggested visitors stay for three hours, which will enable them to experience the highlights: Patio del León, Patio de la Montería, Jardín de la Danza and Palacio de Don Pedro.
Seville European Film Festival
With Autumn a notable season for festivals in Seville, the Seville European Film Festival takes place every year. Celebrating European cinema and film making, the nine-day festival is a must do for visitors this Autumn! From short films to documentaries to established feature films, the festival caters for all – and also offers exhibitions and concerts as part of the fun.
Having been hosted in November since 2004, the festival is a great opportunity for visitors to deep dive into European films as it celebrates the contemporary cinematic culture.
Setas de Sevilla
As the weather cools in Autumn in Seville, a visit to Setas de Sevilla is the perfect way to enjoy the season. The cultural landmark is known as the 'mushrooms of Seville’ and has been open since 2011 – holding as the largest wooden construction in the world.
